I want to make a batch script that will tweak a specific key in my registry and replace it with the datestamp of when the batch is executed. I'd rather not install additional tools if this can be done from basic DOS.
The thing is, my knowledge of DOS commands is pretty limited and rusty, and I know even less about the registry and whether DOS can even be used to modify it.

Can this be done, and would anyone be able to walk me through the steps?

ok, datestamp isn't quite the right term.
it inserts a string of some sort but I can't figure out how to interpret it. here's the examples:

Use the REG command to edit the registry. Use "REG ADD /F" to replace an existing registry key.
