>What does that even have to do with political spectrum?
Uh...
To be fair, assuming you're the one who used the word in the first place, invoking the concept of political correctness implies some link to "the political spectrum".
And, by the way, they totally could "get away with" a commercial like this today. It's beyond tame and, moreover, it's all done ironically. You must not be watching much television, if you think this sort of thing wouldn't be allowed to air in today's market. The only reason something like this might not make it to TV today is that the imagery is irrelevant and the market wouldn't respond to it well. Political correctness has nothing to do with it. The commercial is actually quite progressive and every message it sends is very PC. A housewife lives a double life as a superhero and, after saving the world, picks up some Coca-Cola for her kids.
What about this isn't politically correct? The commercial empowers women while acknowledging the roles that many of them actually play irl. At the same time, it mocks the classic image of a stay-at-home mom by making the mother in question a famed superhero. The ad was intentionally animated in the style that it was because, in the era that spawned that type of animation a woman wouldn't have been shown in that dual role and people wouldn't have accepted it. In today's world, people are comfortable seeing moms outside of the home.
It's not uncommon for individuals to claim, without much provocation, that the world is going to Hell in a hand-basket or that things just aren't as good as they used to be. I suppose that if you really pay that much attention to what type of commercials are being allowed to air, it might seem that way. However, you should also consider the fact that we have a black president and that there have only been a very negligible few incidents surrounding his presidency. Consider the fact that the popularity of reality television has finally dwindled. Consider the fact that people are actually responding to the outcry of the scientific community and taking steps to help preserve and maintain the health of our planet.
One could argue that this world is becoming too concerned with political correctness. I say "one" instead of "you" because I don't think you really know what the phrase means. You're not as smart as you think you are and, even if you were, you're wasting your time worrying about Coke ads. Do you even care about how women are portrayed in the media? Would you really be so dismiss a tacit agreement within our culture to stop perpetuating the notion that women should be or always are housewives? And, furthermore, would you blame political correctness for that shift, rather than a genuine desire to portray them fairly and in a more positive/encouraging light?
