DC will make a good strong magnetic field, limited only by the conductivity of your coil and your power supply.

But that field is useless other than for erasing every credit card within X radius of the source. It won't allow you to transmit electricity unless the reciever is in motion or you use AC to generate the field.

Tesla did a lot of work on the matter, he was trying to create wireless power transmission.

Problem is, only small amounts of power could be moved over any significant difference- enough for a radio signal and not much else.

Look up Inductance and Q losses. Electromagnetic fields behave very much like gravity, the forces produced are inversely proportional to distance. Distance of 0 yields infinity coupling, while distance of infinity yields 0 coupling.

So ultimately to answer this question, there is not enough info here. The voltage and current need to be known, as does the size and structure of the coil that is to be generating this field.

Now I do know for a fact that a donut sized superconductor charged with pulsed DC- electrons in very nearly perpetual motion racing around the coil, was able to yield a 5 Gauss magnetic field capable of erasing every credit card in a 9 cubicle radius using very little power. But that required expensive liquid helium cooling to maintain, and the field would dissappear if another coil was brought nearby to try and use some of the radiated field.

I need lots of power moved over a small distance in a wireless fashion. The time over which it needs to be transferred can be measured in micro seconds because the object that it is being transferred to will be moving (hopefully) at extremely high speeds especially if it can be transferred over longer distances. I wanna create a wireless railgun capable of hauling heavy objects ... like a satellite. Exactly like a satellite. I don't care as much if you take this idea and make millions/billions/trillions off of it, I just wanna see it done. Rockets/missiles are absurd. We need a cheaper way of getting into space.
