Fuck web2.0

Two weeks ago mediafire switched to a new interface (shown in pic).

I signed up with mediafire two years ago because it was totally free, had good download speeds, no download bandwidth limits on free accounts, and no waiting times to download. I'm pretty patient compared to most people on the internet, but even I hate it when sites make you wait x seconds before the download link appears. I usually go to some other page while I wait and forget to start the download, and then it times out and the vicious cycle feeds itself. SUre, there's programs that do the stuff for you, but when I want to share something with people, I don't expect them to be at the same level of computer savvy-ness that I am.

The new interface makes it virtually impossible to upload anything from my main file-hub machine. I already go out of my way to make sure my files are as small as possible before uploading to minimize the risk of wifi connection issues interrupting the upload. Now my browser become totally incapacitated for an average of 60 seconds whenever I navigate any page on mediafire. After which point it tells me the script is unresponsive and asks if we should terminate it. Apparently terminating it means that no uploading or downloading can be done anymore. There used to be a basic point-and-click fallback for people who don't want to use the flash interface. The new one seems to be completely controlled by 5 javascripts totaling half a megabyte in size!

If Pico can edit video on his commadore, I should be able to use a filesharing site with a Pentium II.

I don't use Mediafire but in their faq they mention that the html uploader is available by changing the the upload options. Is that still true? I'd personally send an email to Mediafire to invite them to reply in this thread just for giggles but want to make sure of the facts first.

I went and disabled the flash uploader, but since I have flashblock installed, it resorting to the html uploader anyway. My big problem is with file management such as selecting files, moving them, and folder navigation.

Ugh. Every time I post I end up skipping over some letter or small word and end up sounding like English is my second language. -_-
