I noticed some of the images that come with this program aren't used in the html help files, even though they're in the help directory. Wondering whether the application itself was linked to them, I figured I take a look in a hex editor and found this. What purpose is there in having this at the end of the file?
Would it break the program if I changed it all to 0's?

It seems to be okay if I just overwrite it with 00, but if I just chop the end off the file where the padding starts, it breaks and give the "not a valid win32 program" error. I also notice a suspicious number of my programs are exactly the same size as the disk space they occupy, unlike most other files. Is there a correlation there?

Huh, I had a lot of fun looking this one up. It looks like this string is used to pad a section when strings are edited, possibly removed in this case. Because the section's length is hard coded you have to fill it with something instead of deleting it.
