So it turns out the Robocop remake is happening. The reported cast is as follows:

Joel Kinnamon as Robocop

Gary Oldman as Bob Morton (in the original, this was the guy that led the Robocop project)

Samuel L. Jackson as Pat Novak, although I don't recall a Pat Novak in the original. This Pat Novak will be some kind of media mogul

Hugh Laurie as some unamed evil CEO villain

The film will be directed by Jose Padilla, who previously directed some film called The Elite Squad. Wikipedia doesn't share too many credits. From IMDB I gather he's mostly been on the Brazilian film scene.

I'm on the fence on how this will turn out. Lots of star power, there, but I dunno.

I've only ever seen a picture of Joel Kinnamon. Never seen his work. He looks like a pretty boy, however. I could see using his looks to give him some sympathy right before he's gunned down and becomes RoboCop. Peter Weller, the original Officer Murphy/RoboCop had a voice they could use to make that deep vocalized RoboCop voice, though. If Joel Kinnamon has a rich voice, he'll be able to pull off the rest. Assuming they cover him head-to-toe like they did with Weller.

I don't know if his voice is right for the part.

Anyway, 2011 and 2012 have been big years for him thus far, so he's probably too busy for it. Also, supposedly, Hardy has been saying that he's been tapped to play Max in "Mad Max: Fury Road", which is supposed to have started shooting in April.

No word if it really has or when it will wrap.
