ubuntu is fine

This isn't meant to be mean, but if you're inexperienced enough to ask a question like this then you should be using Ubuntu for the time being. There's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't have a hundred trillion switches and bells to set off your autism or let you do something crazy specific.

Running a low traffic webserver is not something very specialized. Apache2 or nginx on Ubuntu is not just fine: it's the minimum amount of annoying shit to slog through. Linux manufactures that kind of thing by the barrel, because you're looking inside the sausage factory. Ubuntu just tends to show the least of it when you're doing something straightforward.
