Anybody had any experience with setting up a local repo mirror?

http://www.packtpub.com/article/create-local-ubuntu-repository-using-apt-mirror-apt-cacher

I'm thinking about mirroring Ubuntu 12.04's repos for personal use (I frag my machines alot).

Heres what I want to do, tell me if it's feasible:

Have a dedicated machine mirroring the repo to the USB HDD at all times. Whenever I need to reinstall some software on another machine I unmount the USB HDD from the mirror machine and mount it to the machine in question. I do all my apt-get and whatnot, then remount it to the mirror machine in case some new shit is released and it can be immediately mirrored.

Think it'll work?
