Ok, bear with me here I'm going to be very specific.
I'm looking for one of those light weight distros, though it only has be light weight on CPU/RAM not on installation size. I want it to be debain/*buntu based. I need it to have all kinds of driver support so it can run on all kinds of machines. And I need it to have, or be able to have, the following programs:
-Firefox
-IRC client, does not matter if it is terminal based or not.
-GIMP
-GEDIT
-CONKY
-A useable file manager
-image viewer with .gif support
-VLC

I've messed with other light weight distro's before. DamnSmall is glitchy and not user friendly, Puppy looks like it was made my Chris-chan, and TinyLinux is way too light weight. (text only browserlol)
Now that you know what I need, has /nix/ heard of any distro's like what I need?
Thanks in advance.

Bonus points if it uses Thunar.

You'll want either PuppyLinux or SliTaz.

PuppyLinux is very light weight. SliTaz is light weight and accessible, based off of Ubuntu too.

Ok, since you pretty much know what you want, I'd reccomend archlinux. Arch is super light, but you can bloat it up with all kinds of crap if you want. It's not .deb based, but its package manager is just as good as apt or better. check out the wiki and read the documentation before you install or you'll be in for a suprise.

The simple option is to just use Ubuntu, but Arch is fine too ^.^;

Okay. I tried out Slitaz. Its great if you can get it to boot. But it only boots on 1 of my 5 computers. And if you try to install, no matter what method, you get a "rootfs.gz not found" error. I also got numerous other boot/gui problems I don't feel like typing about. Stay away from Slitaz.

Hey Anon, I torrented an Arch ISO and tired to live boot it from a USB stick. But I kept getting this error no matter what usb stick I used or what machine I tried it on.

>ERROR: boot device didn't show up after 30 seconds

Falling back to interactive prompt

You can try to fix the problem manually, log out when you are finished,

/bin/sh: can't acecess tty; job control turned off

[ramfs /]#

What should I do here? I don't know what my problem is.

Give antiX a try, I ran it on a laptop with terrible hardware specs and it was a solid performer.
