  Posting Threads.

Maybe a lot of Britfags have seen this, because it was a made for TV movie about nuclear war made for the BBC.

You hear "made for TV" and think it won't be too rough. Then the bomb falls and you see the results of nuclear war. PROTIP: You don't build a shelter and fight mutants.

If you don't want to watch the introductory stuff (but you should), the bomb falls in the fifth section. Then it gets worse.

Somehow, even though born after the apocalypse, Ruth's daughter has managed to get fillings done. That's nice.

How the fuck did Sheffield get hit, or anywhere else for that matter. You'd have thought there was only that American base going by this (and that they only got scrambled after the second bomb). I'd say I'm glad I had to go to bed when this stuff was on, but they put this kind of stuff on after sesame street (channel 4 was even worse for these sorts of programs) or pigeon street.

It was partly a response to the US made for TV movie The Day After. TDA is set in Lawrence Kansas, which was supposed to be the "safest" part of the United States, as it was the largest tactically insignificant area.

Kind of a "no one's safe from nuclear war" type deal. Personally, I think Threads is a little over the top in terms of things like nuclear winter (lasting thirteen years after the bombs?) and the complete collapse afterwards, but hell, they were trying to scare people.

But Sheffield was/is tactically significant, that's why i don't get how it got bombed. You wouldn't believe (yes you would) how many RAF base there is surrounding Yorkshire... by gum

Yeah, that's the point, it was supposed to show how nowhere is safe from nuclear war. Which is sort of bullshit, but hey, they had a message to get out.

I just got mad because one of the rolls royce factory's is just up the road from where I lived at the time (not that I'm that far from it now, and I'm closer to the one that makes nuclear engines), but I enjoyed the nostalgic aspect of it.

Yeah, that was me. Mainly because there's only like four people who post in here, which sucks, because Post-Apocalyptic literature/movies/games are one of my main interests.

It's definitely one of my favorites. A little bit dated.

I'd really like to have seen more of England 13 years after the war. I know what happens after bombs fall: fire and radiation. I want to know what happens to society years down the road.
