Has anyone ever considered the consequences of developing a computer that can pass the turing test? What their values would be, how they would work towards sustainability? Where do we fit in, could we coexist?

Anything more recent? My dissertation adviser likes to talk about stuff like this a lot. He's all into the idea of singularity and all that stuff Kurzweil pushes, but he also is mindful of the implications. I would see information entities as wanting to stomp out any humanity here on Earth, seeing it as running completely counter to the cold logic of what supports their ability to thrive.

Wait, what about Skynet from the Terminator series, or the Matrix?

Skynet was all about a computer intelligence taking control of earth, and The Matrix was all about using people as power sources for machines (although it would have made more sense for them to be enslaved processing units instead of living batteries)
