1.A shitload of company's listed here http://www.all-free-isp.com/ will give you dial up connections for free if you give them your e-mail address. Use an email address from http://10minutemail.com and you can avoid all the ads thereby fucking over the company and getting you online.
2. You can get online at your local library usually
3.If you have a wireless card, look for neighbors with open wi-fi connections.
4.If you have a laptop, wi-fi is usually available at McDonald's or Starbucks.

TIPS FOR DIAL UP USERS: If you decide to follow step one I would download NoScript if you have Firefox and turn off images in your browser, that will shorten the loading time. I would also Google dial up accelerators, they will compress the images to make things load faster. Also try Googling Toonel, its a proxy service that compresses all internet traffic and its free.

Adblock plus for firefox will help block text ads too.

Some colleges will have a "dialup" program for students who need internet off campus. My school's was free but sometimes had trouble connecting between 6 and 8 pm.

For downloading and torrenting and streaming find highspeed interent, if you are just browsing chan's and checking email you can get by with dialup. Smart phones work good too, but can be finicky at times where cell service is spotty.

Apartment buildings are full of wireless connections, and while more people are starting to secure them, there's still usually someone who doesn't know how or just doesn't care.

True. Even then, the most common encryption standard for wireless (WEP) is very easy to crack. It takes around 5 minutes to get the key. All you need is cracking software and special drivers for your wireless card.
