Firefighter is good and they don't require any education past high school. It's competitive to get in though.

Not really a "major" city, but I used to hack in Austin, TX. Most fun job I ever had. Austin's not much of a taxi city - you could hang around the airport or on the weekends around the downtown bar areas. I was in college at the time, and cash in hand was better than waiting for a shit paycheck (and I never reported any of it, so no taxes).

Restaurant work's not bad. Depending on how much cash you need day to day, bussing tables can support you pretty easily. All you have to do is clean a table and reset it as quick as you can.

Granted, working in a restaurant is stressful as hell and you can kiss your weekends goodbye, but that's any low qualification job.

You could also just go to a community college and get a degree in something like phlebotomy. At my school it's just a year-long course. You can get financial aid during that time as well to support yourself with. Just be careful with loans.
