Obligatory ramen thread. This pretty much covers it, but if you have something else lets do this.

Variation 1: Boil noodles in canned broth or soup stock instead of water.

Variation 2: Boil and drain noodles. Coat in sesame oil. Add sesame seeds and anywhere from half to 2/3rds of the seasoning packet.

Variation 3 (works best with certain flavorings) AKA ghetto fettuccine: Boil noodles in milk. Remove noodles from milk. Simmer milk until it is slightly thick, then add the flavoring packet.

Variation 4: Boil and drain noodles. Make a simple stir-fry, using the seasoning packet for flavor (may require more than one packet). Toss in noodles and remove from heat.

Just saw this and it made me crave ramen.

my method has always been drain the water and put the full seasoning on it no extras. usually two at a time.

my question is how long do YOU boil the noodles for? doe you set a timer or just wing it? I have been just winging it since forever

also, what is the flavor/consistency different between the Maruchan and the $1 bag?

I like 'em a little crunchy, so two and a half minutes instead of the recommended three.

If you're asking about Shin Lamyun, it's got a few more ingredients in the soup - it's pretty good, but I don't know if it's worth a whole dollar.

Ghetto Peanut Sauce:
Cook your noodles, drain, throw in a flavour packet (have only tried chicken with this one), then add some peanut butter, bit of sugar, bit of soy sauce, splash of sriracha sauce, green onion, egg. yum.

Mama's Tom Yum flavor ramen is so good, once you've had it, Maruchan is worthless. I almost wish I hadn't discovered it.

I use the noodles for stirfries and other non-soups a lot. my FAVORITE, very poor-friendly ramen recipe is as follows:

-cook and drain noodles
-return to pot on lowest stove setting
-coat that shit in ketchup, sriracha, and a few dashes of curry powder
-ghetto curry!!!!

goddamn, that sounds awesome. this is what im about to make:

1)crush the ramen in the bag by pressing it hard against the counter(i use chicken and beef flavored maruchan the most),toss it in a decent sized bowl, add water until it covers all the noodles.

2)cube a link of sausage. cubes smaller than dice. toss those in the bowl.

3)chop a little bit of onion real small and throw it in there too. i use prob abt 2 tablespoons of finely chopped onions per bag of ramen.

4)douse a _little bit_ of tobasco, the seasoning packet, and some pepper on top. mix all the ingredients down into the water some. if anything is poking out of the water, add more to cover it.

5)microwave on high for 1 minute. stir it. microwave one more minute. now eat that shit.

additionally, you can add all sorts of things. Wally World had super cheap crab meat for a while in little pouches, so that was fucking badass. just add some Old Bay seasoning, or whatever seafood seasonings you like. i hear adding bacon bits or even canned tunas alright, but im skeptical. also, plain old ground beef leftovers from last nights tacos is a good place to start, sometimes (with a little ketchup and oregano). if your really on the cheap, and trying to make it spread out a bit, add crushed saltines. as mentioned before, dont forget the veggies. you can a bigass bag of frozen peas and stuff for like 2 or 3 bucks. just remember that that ramen seasoning is usually crazy high on sodium, so theres never too much call for adding salt to the mix.

I don't cook much, so I'm confused. You're pouring the egg in and mixing it, or are you cooking the egg first and then mixing it in?
