Okay /pmb/, time to be good for something.

I need a new computer (well, I need a computer). Being poor, my options are pretty limited. The WalMart I go to has next to no security, and I've stolen food/clothing there without anyone even looking in my direction. So I bet if I could find some way to get a computer out the door, it'd be a cakewalk.

My problem is the little alarm devices attached to the box. I've talked to a few friends who worked retail, I know you can't cut or pull them off without breaking the circuit and tripping the alarm. Also, taking them outside will set them off too. So, I need a way to get the alarm off entirely and quickly without arousing too much suspicion (some fiddling will go unnoticed, this is a really really lax store).

The alarms themselves are round, black, have a speaker on the front with "AlarmSecure" above that. Wires come out from four points on the circle, wrapping a wire around all four sides of the box. I can't seem to find a model for the alarm or any schematic to give me more information, but from my retail-buddies I know they use magnet keys to unlock these things.

I might try to nick or buy a detacher (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1pc-High-Magnetic-Intensity-15-000GS-Universal-Security-Sensormatic-Checkpoint-EAS-Hard-Tag-Detacher-Remover-Releaser/

So, if anyone can point to a solution, I will reward them. Not sure how yet, but I'll find a way.

pic isn't the alarm, but a similar antitheft device

Usually people deal with those alarms with a bag covered in aluminum I think to block the signal getting to the alarm detector, I know that would definitely look suspicious though since it wouldn't fit in your pocket, so just put it in one of those reusable shopping bags, buy some cheap shit, and go.

Aluminum, you say?

I'm kinda wary about that. It's a pretty old method. I've heard lead plates are better for new systems, but if I could buy that shit, I wouldn't be stealing. And the alarm on the box looks a lot more secure than the shit they put on clothes.

Plus, it's not like the computer will fit in a bag.

I've never tried any of the methods so I don't know exactly how any of them would work. You're getting a desktop and not a laptop? I don't know if it's even possible to steal a desktop, though i'm sure some laptops would easily fit in one of those reusable "green" bags.

It's possible to steal some really wild shit from retail. A guy I know has been to jail 5 or 6 times for stealing big screen TV's from places like WalMart and Best Buy. Apparently, if you go in when they're busy, you can just put one in a cart, and wheel the fucker right on out the door without anyone batting an eye. Everyone who sees you assumes you must have paid for it, if you;'re leaving with it.

That said, if you're in the market for stealing a new computer, you'll find the after hours security in any suburban high school to be shitty enough to smash a window, and get out with a couple computers.

If a smash and grab isn't your style, try stealing the floor model machines they leave out for demos. They're usually chained to the display table with those bike lock style fobs, but good, heavy pair of snips should be able to break them. Obviously laptops are going to be a lot easier than desktops.

the idea here is NOT to go to jail, man

and it doesn't solve the alarm issue. but i agree with the stealing from a school thing, that shit is cake

He's probably gone to jail because one place they're gonna want to keep cams on is the TVs, so someone probably saw him on the monitoring system. As for stealing from schools, I think that's more of a risk because it's a felony or something.
