This is probably the worst game I ever played. I bought it today after class ended, and returned it about forty five minutes later. I'm not going to talk about the story, because everyone plays Halo for multiplayer anyway. A few issues aren't really issues with the game itself, but rather the community.

1)Halo is for 12 year olds. I know people always say that, but it really is. At least, I assume so, because that's every match you wind up in, screaming twelve year olds. Luckily, I was playing with friends, so I didn't deal with that too much.

2)Respawn? Sniped. Respawn? Rocket Launcher. You spend more time per match staring at the countdown timer then you do playing.

3)GOD TIER CLASS. Oh, wait, match is over, so is the class. In Invasion, you get to unlock classes, only to lose them and start over at the bottom again with no classes. Why anyone thought that would be a good idea is beyond me.

4)It's a good thing that you get so much ammo, because an entire clip does as much to an enemy as a stiff breeze.

5) Playing as a Spartan? Don't shoot anyone! When they shoot back at you, you'll die. Then you get to wait to respawn again. Whoo.

tl;dr: Halo Reach is the last Halo product I ever buy. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson after everything that wasn't the first Halo.

Can anyone tell me Halo is so unbelievable popular? I never got this. I saw some screenshots and gameplay vids and it looked rather typical and boring. So why all this hype? What's good about it? I really want to know.

I think it was because the first Halo was incredibly lucky. It was the first shooter on the Xbox, but it came out before there was online play. So you still had to be in the same room, which made it feel more competitive. They try to recreate that "in the room" playing online, but they fail to do so.

Anyway, because of its accesibility, and the fact that it came out at a time that the younger half of the gaming population was branching towards more multiplayer gaming, Halo got lucky. Shit, Gears of War is even better than Halo.

Don't you talk shit about Gears now - game succeeded at what it was going for: testosterone overload.

Before Halo came out no one had thought of making a game where you played as a floating pair of arms with a gun.

>I'm not going to talk about the story, because everyone plays Halo for multiplayer anyway.

Excuse me? I've only until recently lived in an area that could only get dial up or satellite internet. It was impossible for me to get online with my Xbox. I happen to like the story quite a bit. And especially how I've read the "Reach" book (which is even better than the video games (but I'm a great lover of books so I'm biased)) the "Reach" game means quite a bit to me.

Also, I don't know ANYONE that would do well with that game, jumping straight into the multiplayer. Play the fucking campaign on at least Heroic, shit. I understand the insta-snipe and insta-rocket problem - that's a community problem, not the game. That's not every match though. This is coming from someone who is not very good at the Halo multiplayer. I barely ever get a kill:death ratio over 1.

Then get out of Underground or Family, you moron. Only dicks play there. And learn to use the mute button. It takes, what, half a second to hold back, scroll to someone's name, and silence them?

Also, REPORT people for that kind of shit! It's against the Live TOS and eventually the screaming 12 year olds will get banned. If nothing else, they'll lose enough rep that they'll only get matched with other losers.

>2)Respawn? Sniped. Respawn? Rocket Launcher. You spend more time per match staring at the countdown timer then you do playing.

Sounds like someone just sucks at the game. If you're dealing with a sniper on a spawn, armor lock and run. This is basic, first day shit you're failing to grasp.

>4)It's a good thing that you get so much ammo, because an entire clip does as much to an enemy as a stiff breeze.

Again, it sounds like you just suck at the game. This isn't Call of Duty. It takes more than 3 shots to kill someone in Halo. Perhaps it's because this is the 30th century or whatever and we're dealing with super enhanced soldiers with fucking energy shields around them, you shitwizard!

>5) Playing as a Spartan? Don't shoot anyone! When they shoot back at you, you'll die. Then you get to wait to respawn again. Whoo.

The only diff between elites and spartans are the model. One doesn't have any benefits over the other (except MAYBE elites being harder to headshot because their heads are forward of their bodies instead of above them).

Limit voice audio to party only in options. It literally takes four seconds and I never had a problem since.

So I should mute all the players I get set up with? I'm aware that it only takes a few seconds, but I shouldn't have to in the first place. Also, I lol'd at reporting someone on Xbox Live. Because that works so well!

>Sounds like someone just sucks at the game. If you're dealing with a sniper on a spawn, armor lock and run. This is basic, first day shit you're failing to grasp.

I shouldn't have to armor lock and rub, just like I shouldn't have to mute people. Also, there's that game mode where you have to earn all those things (I think it's Invasion?)

So, 30th century technology means you can create armor that can resist 60 rounds without any major problem, AND can restore itself, but no one 1000 years from now worked on making a more powerful weapon or ammo? Call of Duty takes only three shots to kill someone because it's a game of skill. If Call of Duty is chess, Halo is checkers. And Halo Reach is checkers with a downie smearing shit on the board and screaming that his opponent is a faggot every twelve seconds.

>The only diff between elites and spartans are the model. One doesn't have any benefits over the other (except MAYBE elites being harder to headshot because their heads are forward of their bodies instead of above them).

I'll concede that this is probably true, though it did seem to me that the Elites had unfair advantages in activated abilities.

Interesting point: why ARE we still using assault rifles and shit when we have fucking super-BAMF armor?

>ITS 30TH CENTURY FAGGOT OF COURSE YOU CANT KILL THEM QUICKLY

Yeah, so I'll make a game where it's the 40th century and somehow everyone dropped their guns at the same time, so we all punch each other to death and it takes hours for each kill. Nobody could complain about it because "ITS THE 40TH CENTURY IT MAKES SENSE AND THE GAME IS GREAT".
Who cares about the scenario. If the game isn't fun, the premise is irrelevant. Easier kills makes the game more competitive. Halo is a game for those new to FPS's.
>> No. 268
It being the future doesn't change the gameplay, especially when halo is barely consistent and very soft-scifi.

The twelve year old thing is a problem XBL is plagued with. PC usually isn't as bad. Usually.

Play Team SWAT if you want faster kills. Or something that isn't a medium paced FPS game. This is more of taste than anything else.
